Mereau - Communion token - Walloon congregation Magdeburg

(1 of 6) Mereau - Communion token
Walloon congregation Magdeburg

One of the most important aspects of Calvin's doctrine was the stress he put on church discipline, which he introduced into the Reformed church of Geneva in the teeth of much resistance. Calvin believed that the supervision of the congregation's conduct was of utmost necessity. He called such discipline the very sinews of the church.

It is in this connection that the communion tokens play a role. The tokens are made of lead, tin or any other base metal. They entitle the church member to take part in communion.
